The BEST CONDUCTOR will be invited as a guest conductor with the State Academic Symphony Orchestra of Russia in the next concert season. Maestro Mark B. GORENSTEIN is one of the most famous and distinguished Russian conductors of nowadays. His name is closely associated with traditions of the Russian conductor's school, brilliant performance, depth and innovativeness of interpretation, filigree technique and suggestiveness of personality. Mark Gorenstein studied violin from the age of six in the famous Odessa Music School named after Prof. Stoliarski. While still a student at the Kishinev Conservatory, he was named concertmaster of the city's symphony orchestra. For several years, he worked as a violinist in the Moscow Bolshoi Theatre Orchestra and the State Academic Symphony Orchestra of the USSR, where he also performed from time to time as concertmaster. Later he began studying conducting at the Novosibirsk Conservatory, and, while still a student, won a prize at the conductors' competition of Russia. Having performed with Moscow's top orchestras as a violinist, he began conducting in the mid-70s, and ever since has been celebrated by audience and highly hailed by musicians and professional critics. In 1985, Mark Gorenstein was appointed Principal Conductor of Budapest's MAV Symphony Orchestra, which critics say he developed into one of the major orchestras in Hungary. His range of duties with this ensemble included more than 100 concerts over three seasons in Budapest. With this orchestra, he performed at such World famous events as the Budapest Spring Festival and became a founder of the now traditional New Year celebratory concerts in Budapest. In 1989 Gorenstein started as Artistic Director and Principal Conductor of the Pusan City Symphony Orchestra (South Korea). Since then critics enthusiastically proclaimed that under his baton, the orchestra became the best ensemble in the country. In 1993 being head of the Russian Symphony Orchestra, Gorenstein, by artistic reasons, had to change practically all the musicians in the orchestra and invite very young musicians from different cities of Russia and CIS. A combination of tireless work and great artistic talent very soon brought the results. Russian Symphony Orchestra had conceived its face, its own audience and its space in the musical life of the country. High professionalism of the orchestra could be proven by the release of 18 compact-discs from different record companies both in Russia and abroad. Mark Gorenstein has again recommended himself as a brilliant pedagogue, strong organizer and immensely talented musician, whose ear permits neither intonation errors nor sound misbalance. In 2002 Mark Gorenstein accepted the position of Artistic Director and Chief Conductor of the leading Russian Orchestra - State Academic Symphony Orchestra (formerly none as - State Academic Symphony Orchestra of the USSR under the direction of Eugenie Svetlanov). And already in autumn 2002 the orchestra went on tour to Italy with the final concert in the summer residence of the Pope, Castel Gandolfo, at the Vatican with Roberto Alagnia and Angela Gheorghiu as soloists. Mark Gorenstein has collaborated with such world famous soloists as: violinists Viktor Tretyakov, Vadim Repin, Julian Rakhlin, Maxim Fedotov, Sergey Stadler, Dmitry Sitkovetsky, Liana Isakadze, Frank Peter Zimmerman, Ilya Grubert, cellists Mstislav Rostropovich, Antonio Meneses, Gustav Rivinius, Alexander Knyazev, Alexander Rudin, pianists Nikolai Petrov, Eliso Virsaladze, Denis Matsuev, Nikolai Lugansky, Vadim Rudenko, Konstantin Livshits, Zoltan Kocsis, Dmitry Bashkirov, Barry Douglas, Pietro de Maria, Gustavo Romero, Lazar Berman, Boris Berezovsky, Dmitry Alexeev, Ayako Uehara, Boris Bloch, clarinetists Paul Meyer, Yulian Milkis, singers Elena Obraztsova, Roberto Alagnia, Angela Gheorghiu, Kathleen Battle. He performed as guest conductor with the State Academic Symphony Orchestra of the USSR, the Leningrad Philharmonic Orchestra, the Hungarian State Symphony Orchestra, the Tokyo Philharmonic Orchestra, the Leipzig Radio Symphony Orchestra, the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra and many others. The list of countries he has performed in includes Bulgaria, Czechoslovakia, Hungary, France, Germany, Great Britain, the Netherlands, Austria, Italy, Japan, and South Korea. In December 2005 Mark Gorenstein was awarded with the Russian Federation Government prize in the field of culture for concert programs of the years 2003 - 2004. In the beginning of the season 2006-2007 Mark Gorenstein was awarded the most prestigious Russian award for "Services to the Motherland" and together with the Orchestra was granted by "Gratitude of the President of Russian Federation".
State Academic Symphony Orchestra of Russia (Svetlanov Symphony Orchestra) is one of leading collectives in Russia during 70 years, which makes pride of native musical culture. The first debut of the orchestra took place on October, 5th, 1936 in the Big hall of the Moscow conservatory. The State Symphonic Orchestra of USSR has been created by the governmental order, and first head of an orchestra became Alexander Gauk - musician of improbable erudition and huge talent. From first days the State orchestra has entered into a musical life and as collective concert, in many respects defined successes of native professional musical art, and also as educational collective. Alexander Gauk has established highly professional traditions playing, for which orchestra is famous until now. GASO became the first Soviet symphonic orchestra, which has heard in the West. In 1956 it has been invited in the Polish National Republic for participation in the International festival of modern music in Warsaw after which the orchestra acted in Vroclave, Katovic and Krakow. In November of the same year the orchestra has left to Romania. In two years the State orchestra of the USSR went to Belgium and China. In 1960 bi-monthly tours of the State orchestra took place in the USA which ended with a concert in New York Madison square garden front of 16-thousand audience. In May, 1961 the orchestra for the first time participated in festival « Prague spring » and the Viennese musical festival. In 1962 the State orchestra became the first Russian symphonic collective which conducted Igor Stravinsky who for the first time has arrived to the USSR. The maestro has highly estimated a professional level of musicians and has expressed words of admiration to address of the orchestra which has executed music to ballet « Spring sacred »). In 1965 the art director and the main conductor of the State symphonic orchestra of USSR becomes Evgenie Svetlanov (1928-2002) with which name is related to one of the best pages of the biography of the State orchestra. For 35 years of work with Svetlanov ‘s collective has transformed it in unique, grandiose scope and powerful creative opportunities an orchestra to the status of one of the best orchestras of the world. The repertoire of an orchestra for this time has extended up to unprecedented before borders: now it included practically all Russian symphonic music, and also huge quantity of compositions of the western composers and modern writers. Together with Evgenie Svetlanovym the orchestra, in 1972 received a rank "academic", went on tour in Germany, the Great Britain, Italy, Bulgaria, Dominican republic, Greece, Yugoslavia, France, Denmark, Sweden, Norway, Finland, Turkey, Ireland, Lebanon, Switzerland, Liechtenstein, Portugal, Japan, Hungary, causing enthusiastic responses at public and a praise of criticism. In 1969 for record of all symphonies of P.I.Tchaikovsky (firm " Melody " together with « Marconi's Stalemate », France) Evgenie Svetlanov and the State orchestra have been awarded Grand Prix du Disque the French academy of a sound recording and Edison Music Award (Netherlands). In a season of 1985-1986 all symphonies of the Russian composer most favorite all over the world have been presented by the State orchestra and Evgenie In 1980th the orchestra has expanded geography of tours, having added the new countries - Canada, Mexico, Thailand, Hong Kong, Brazil, Argentina, South Korea, and also acting in countries like Europe, USA, Australia and New Zealand. Since 1984 to 1991 Svetlanov and he's orchestra participated in television center «Ostankino» films on products of Tchaikovsky (the symphony 1-6, "Manfred", « Romeo and Juliet », « Francheska da Rimini »), Rakhmaninov (the symphony 1-3, « Symphonic dances »), Skryabin (the symphony 1-3, « the Poem of ecstasy »), Sviridov (« the Pathetic oratorio »), Prokofiev (symphonies 1, 7), Glinka, Glazunov, Gliera, Shostakovich, Hrennikova, Khachaturian, Gershwin. In the beginning of 1990th Evgenie Svetlanov has executed in the Big hall of the Moscow conservatory and has written down with the State orchestra all N.Miaskovsky symphonies. Subsequently maestro Svetlanov tuned the art interests to music of composers; end XIX - beginnings XX of centuries - R.Strauss, A.Brukner, E.Vila-Lobosa, Mahler... Execution of all symphonies, accompanied "live" records of compact discs (Russian Season), became event of 90th years XX of a century. In 2002 the main conductor and the art director of Russian State academic symphonic orchestra, became the national actor of Russia Mark Gorenstein. With arrival of the new art director the creative life of the State orchestra becomes sated by bright musical events. The collective participated in the large actions which have received a public resonance, including festivals « Rodion Schedrin », «Mocrtiana», in concerts of " 1000 cities of the world » international charitable program « Stars of the world - to children ». In the autumn of 2002 brilliant tours took place in Italy which became the concert of a year in the residence in Vatican. In September of 2003, the orchestra has made tour round on cities of Ukraine. The collective participated in the Forum of classical music of «the Star of a planet », organized as one of the main cultural actions of Year. In the autumn of 2004 the orchestra has made foreign tours to Belgium, Luxembourg, Switzerland, France, and in 2005 - brilliant trips on cities of Germany and the Great Britain. In January, 2005 the State orchestra became the first Russian orchestra which has received prestigious International award Supersonic Award in Luxembourg for a disk with record of Chamber and Tenth symphonies of Shostakovich (the conductor - Mark Gorenshtejn), let out by firm «Melody ". On December, 28th, 2005 the governmental order of the Russian Federation to Mark Gorenshtejnu was awarded the premium of the Government of the Russian Federation in the field of culture for concert programs 2003-2004. Before an anniversary season in a life of an orchestra there was one important and long-awaited event. The state academic symphonic orchestra of Russia has received a name of Evgenie Svetlanov.
