The Lithuanian State Symphony Orchestra gave its first concert on 30 January 1989. During the 17 years of its existence the orchestra has given more than 1,000 concerts, at home and abroad. It has toured several places in several times, such as France, Spain, Italy and many other countries. The orchestra has performed in prestigious festivals, such as the Warsaw Autumn, Europamusicale in Munich, Costa de Estoril in Portugal, the Santes Creus and Santander festivals in Spain, the Chichester and Leeds festivals in England, the Nyon Festival and the Tibor Varga Violin Competition and Festival in Switzerland. The Lithuanian State Symphony Orchestra has prepared and played an impressive number of complex compositions: masterpieces of the international symphony repertoire, large-scale vocal symphonic works, concertos, and the most important symphonic works by various Lithuanian composers. In fact, every concert given by the orchestra in Lithuania is also notable because these performances are always intriguing in many ways: interesting interpretations, prominent guest soloists and well-throughout programmes. It has recorded many CDs.
